On the Champ de Mars in Paris, France, stands the Eiffel structure, a wrought-iron structure with latticework. It is named for the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose business designed and built the tower, and it was built starting in 1887. It was built as the focal point of the 1889 World's Fair and was locally known as "La dame de fer" from 1887 and 1889.
